Longtime Notre Dame Fighting Irish nemesis Michigan is in a spot of hot water. AD Warde Manuel might be out of a job by the end of the week, and that’s not even the worst thing going on. There’s also a lawsuit filed by a former assistant coach alleging that the administration knew about the many issues the program has had over the last few years and did very little to address them.
Chris Partridge, who worked at Michigan in 2023 before his dismissal, alleges that former Michigan president Santa Ono and Manuel discovered evidence of the infamous sign-stealing scandal as part of an investigation into former Michigan assistant Matthew Weiss in January 2023. Weiss was charged with 24 crimes in 2025, which included 14 counts of unauthorized access to computers and 10 counts of aggravated identity theft, for allegedly hacking into accounts of female athletes and stealing private photographs.
Partridge alleges that Ono and Manuel discovered evidence of sign-stealing on Weiss' hard drive, but never reported it to the NCAA or the university's board of regents. Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that Ono told university employees, including Manuel, not to take any notes related to the investigation into Weiss to avoid possible disclosure. The old Notre Dame Fighting Irish enemy could be about to get into some serious trouble.
Notre Dame baseball players headed to MLB
A pair of Notre Dame baseball players were selected in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, which concluded on Sunday afternoon. Jack Radel, selected No. 28 overall by the Houston Astros, became the program’s highest overall pick since Eric Jagielo was picked 29th in the 2013 MLB Draft, and he was the highest Irish pitcher selected since Aaron Heilman was selected 18th in the 2001 draft.
Catcher Mark Quatrani was selected in the 18th round by the San Diego Padres. Quatrani had a big year with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2026. He posted 15 home runs, 66 RBI, 53 runs, 80 hits, and a 1.100 OPS. Defensively, he caught 15 runners attempting to steal during the season.

- Heading into the 2026 season, David Cone, one of On3’s Crain & Cone podcast hosts, believes that SMU could not only be the big upset for the Irish but also could be one of the biggest upsets of the entire season. Marcus Freeman and Co. will need to keep the focus up as the campaign goes on.
- CJ Carr gave a recent interview where he pinpointed one defensive teammate he expects to have a very big season. “I think Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa is going to have a year that won’t shock anyone around Notre Dame,” Carr said. “He’s one of the best defensive players in the country, in my opinion. He has battled through an injury with the ACL, but he’s a really good football player.”
- Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Sam Hartman is busy working to keep his NFL life going. Earlier this week, he was spotted alongside Sam Howell and Drake Maye working out at his high school alma mater. Hartman is trying to keep his job as QB3 with the Washington Commanders.
