Former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman is fighting for his NFL life, and he’s found an interesting way to wage that battle this month. Hartman teamed up with a couple of other NFL quarterbacks in order to train at the Oceanside Collegiate Academy. The trio is working ahead of the league’s training camps later this month. Hartman was joined by Drake Maye and Sam Howell, according to a post on the school's social media.

“Great to have Drake Maye, Sam Hartman and Sam Howell all on campus working out! 3 NFL QBs at the same time. Oceanside is a great place for our NFL friends to train in the offseason! You’re welcome any time!”

The former Notre Dame quarterback is an alum of Oceanside Collegiate Academy. It seems likely that he was the one who helped bring this workout group together.

May is the most well-known of the group, as he’s coming off a career-best season with the New England Patriots that included a run to the Super Bowl. Even while his team was beaten by the Seattle Seahawks in that game, big things are expected for the third-year quarterback in 2026.

Howell played his first two years in the NFL with the Washington Commanders, including the 2023 season, when he saw significant playing time, throwing for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. This past offseason, Howell signed with the Dallas Cowboys and is hoping to win the backup quarterback job.

Hartman went undrafted after his one and only season with Notre Dame. However, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Commanders. He’s had a bit of an up-and-down stay in the nation’s capital but finished the 2025 campaign as the team’s QB3 behind Jayden Daniels and veteran backup Marcus Mariota.

This spring, Hartman received new competition for a spot on Washington’s roster. Former Rutgers and Minnesota quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis was drafted late in the seventh round.

It's worth noting that Hartman struggled in extended action during the 2025 preseason. Over his three appearances, he completed 25 of 46 passes for 207 yards with four interceptions and a fumble. Hartman tossed a pick-six while turning the ball over twice in Washington's 30-3 preseason finale loss to Baltimore last year.

The former Notre Dame quarterback looks like he’s trying hard to stay on an NFL roster, and Sam Hartman working out with other quarterbacks who have gotten plenty of starts in the league will certainly help him sharpen his talents just ahead of fall camp’s start.
