Notre Dame Fighting Irish news: A gold medal, a power move, and a rising star emerge

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team has a lot of growing and changing to do from last season. However, it's clear that there's still enough talent on this roster that it could challenge for it's first run past the Sweet 16 in quite a while.

That was proven once again earlier this month when Hannah Hidalgo led Team USA to a Gold Medal  2025 FIBA Women’s Americup. The Irish guard averaged 11.8 points and 4.4 assists per game while nabbing 20 steals over 7 games in the tournament.

When Khary Adams picked the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over other teams like rival Michigan, there were obviously several fanbases that were not thrilled.

Some even thought he might eventually flip to the Wolverines. However, Adams shut that down with a one-word response: "No."

Marcus Freeman on Dodd Watch List

Only twice has a head coach ever won the Dodd award twice, and it has never won in consecutive seasons. Marcus Freeman could be the first to do such a thing.

Earlier this week, the Notre Dame football head coach was named to the Dodd Award Watch List. The award is given to the man considered the best head coach in the sport every year. Freeman won it in 2024 after leading his Fighting Irish to the National Championship game.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball star gets freshman honors

Bino Watters was named to the Freshman All-America Second Team by D1baseball.com earlier this month for his performance during the 2025 season.

Watters had a .317 batting average, a .436 on-base percentage, and a .549 slugging percentage for an OPS of .984. He also scored 40 runs with nine doubles, nine home runs, and 39 RBI during his debut season with the Irish. Watters posted 16 multi-hit games during the 2025 campaign.
