Notre Dame Fighting Irish lacrosse is gearing up for a a run to defend its national championship and in order to do that, they’re going to be sitting one of their best players.

Obviously. Jordan Faison isn’t sitting out for anything close to the entire season. However, it’s clear that head coach Kevin Corrigan understands what playing two sports at the college level can do to a body. Even one that is well tuned and used to taking the punishment of sports like lacrosse and football. And in order to make sure the Irish have one of their best players as the season ramps up, Corrigan is making sure that Faison is going to get some rest before his tips off his lacrosse season.

In order to keep Faison fresh, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish lacrosse team is sitting the two-sport star for at least the squad’s first two games. That’s why he’s missing the team’s season opener on Wednesday night. He’ll also miss the next game at the very least.

“He didn't even come to practice until yesterday,” Corrigan said earlier this week. “He won't play this week at all, or next week either, for that matter. He's starting to practice this week, though, and starting to get the stick back in his hand. And I'm not worried about him from a conditioning standpoint or any of that. He was, you know, obviously working hard all fall and summer.”

Faison was not only playing during the football season, but he was playing some of his best ball as the season wound down. Of course, he was also dealing with some injuries every now and then.

“I want him to be fresh,” Corrigan added. “I really want him to be fresh and ready in April and May. You know, that's when we need him to be at his best. And I don't want him dragging around feeling like, ‘oh, man, it's been a long year.’ I want him going, ‘hot dog, it's May.’”

Meanwhile, the rest of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish lacrosse team is going “hot dog, the season is here.”
