While the talk when it came to wide receivers on the Notre Dame football team usually involved the new additions through the transfer portal in Beaux Collins and Kris Mitchell, everyone in South Bend knows that Jordan Faison is going to be very important to the Fighting Irish season.

That is of course, if he’s available to play.

On Saturday night, just how often Faison will be able to play was officially thrown into question when he exited the game in the first half against the Texas A&M Aggies. While an official report about what exactly happened to Faison still haven’t surfaced at the time of this writing, it’s clear it wasn’t a minor injury.

Early in the second half, eagle eyed reporters noticed that Faison had taken off his pads and his cleats. Later in the game, he was spotted against basically out of uniform, with no helmet and no pads.

Earlier in the game, Notre Dame football watchers saw he was leaning on crutches, though later in the contest, that didn’t seem to be an issue. Without an official update, one can only guess at a possible leg injury, though standing on the sidelines would hint that’s not really the issue.

The injury is especially concerning for no other reason than the Fighting Irish offense struggled to move the ball badly until the last few minutes of the fourth quarter. One would think his being in the game would have helped greatly.

Of course, the other concern is that he’ll miss some serious time. The Irish schedule lets up quite a bit for the next few weeks, so he’s got some time to recover if he needs it. He just needs to be back by the time Notre Dame football has to take on Louisville on September 28.
