The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have known they were losing catcher Carson Tinney to another team. However, there was some hope that he might come back to South Bend of late, mainly because he was out there looking for greener pastures for a while.
However, earlier this week, the catcher, who is one of the best players in the country found his new team. Tinney has decided to go play for the Texas Longhorns. That means he's going to get a chance to win a national championship.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish star had himself quite the 2025 season. He posted a .348/.498/.753 with 17 home runs, 13 doubles, and 53 RBI. In addition to Tinney’s raw power, he controlled the strike zone well with 40 strikeouts compared to 34 walks and 13 hit-by-pitches.

As the Notre Dame football team continues its recruiting hot streak, the Irish could celebrate Independence Day with three commitments over three days. 4-star wide receiver Brayden Robinson's latest schedule shakeup means he'll announce his pledge on July 6. That's a full two weeks before his announcement was first set. Kaydon Finley and Devin Fitzgerald are also set to announce their schools that week and both 4-star wide receivers are also expected to land on Marcus Freeman's squad.

While the Notre Dame Fighting Irish couldn't be going better in the 2026 recruiting cycle, things are a bit slower for 2027. Things are especially slower in the 2027 class for the Fighting Irish at the quarterback position. However, while they were late getting into the action for prospects like Peyton Houston, it appears the team still has its foot in the door and could even be considered one of the front runners for his services. Houston is just one of two quarterbacks Marcus Freeman is going after and it appears that Quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli is an ace in the hole.
