The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball team fell short of making the Elite Eight once again. It was the fourth straight time they couldn’t get past the Sweet 16. One player on the team believes she knows why her squad wasn’t able to beat TCU despite the analytics saying they were big favorites.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom in South Bend on Saturday though. The lacrosse team played for the first time in a couple of weeks and things went very, very well. Maybe they just needed to take a little time off.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball loses again
Sonia Citron talked after her team lost on Saturday about why she felt as though they couldn’t get over the hump. The star player said that she thinks there might be a problem with the amount of talent on the Irish.
She thinks that perhaps there’s too much talent and that Notre Dame doesn’t know what to do with all the great players on the roster. She might be onto something considering all the players on Notre Dame and they’ve fallen short of the Elite Eight four straight times.
Lacrosse back on the winning track
After losing two straight matches, the Irish lacrosse team is back on track with a win over the Michigan Wolverines and now the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday and thanks to 7 points (5 goals and 2 assists) by Jake Taylor and 10 saves by goalie Thomas Ricciardi, they beat their ACC rival 14-7.
That’s even more impressive considering that Duke is one of those teams that has had Notre Dame’s number in the past. While the Irish have now won seven in a row, it still feels like exacting a measure of revenge from the "bad old days."
Messiah not coming to South Bend
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish thought they were going to get a visit from one of the best running back prospects in the country. It turns out that he’s not flipping from Penn State. He has decided that he’s locking down and sticking with the Nittany Lions.
