The Notre Dame baseball team's season has been up and down but mostly down. On Sunday, they suffered another down day when they finished off a series against Florida State. They played two games on Sunday after a Saturday rainout.

Meanwhile, a former Notre Dame football player gets to start his new career with the Chicago Bears. In the process, he’ll join other former Irish who are stocking the NFL team’s roster.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball suffers two losses in twin bill

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team got off to a good start in the series against Florida State, getting just their second ACC win of the season. Unfortunately, the Sunday doubleheader didn’t go as well.

While they played tough in both ends of the twin bill, they came up shy in a 4-2 (7 innings) game one and a 17-9 battle in game two. The losses mean that Notre Dame is now just 14-10 on the season and 2-10 in the ACC. They continue to be at the very bottom of the conference.

Next up are mid-week games against both Eastern and Western Michigan and then a three-game set against Virginia Tech in South Bend.

Nick McCloud signs with the Bears

A former Notre Dame football defensive back is the fourth former Irish player to now be on the Chicago Bears roster. The other three are long snapper Scott Daly, and tight ends Cole Kmet and Durham Smythe.

Nick McCloud signed a one-year deal with Chicago and will most likely be a special teams wizard for his new team.

Mike Denbrock wants more consistency

Earlier this week, offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock talked about his wide receiver corps. During that talk, he clarified that he knew he dropped many passes. He also made it clear that he wants to see more consistency from this year’s unit.

It will be interesting to see if the Notre Dame Fighting Irish can do that with a new crop of receivers being keyed on by a new quarterback.
