Notre Dame baseball has been the worst team in the ACC so far this year. That’s been especiallouy confounding considering that the Fighting Irish have been very, very good whenever they play a team outside the conference.
It’s entirely possible that the team that’s managed to go 11-1 outside of the ACC and the squad that was 1-8 inside the conference entering the night finally met and managed to form a very good unit.

The opening game of the series between the Fighting Irish and the Florida State Seminoles was surprisingly one-sided. That the Blue and Gold were on the winning side of the 16-9 score was easily the most surprising part of that total.
Not only did the Notre Dame baseball team win, but they rallied late to do it. The Irish trailed 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, then erupted for 5-runs to take a lead they would never relinquish. The offense didn’t let up either, as they scored another run in the seventh, and capped off the huge win with a big 8-run eighth inning.
Offensively, it was catcher Carson Tinney leading the way, going 2-for-3 with a homer, 4 RBI and two walks. Tinney was one of a whopping seven Irish batters to hit a home run. Jared Zimbardo, Estevan Moreno, Brady Gumpf, Nick DeMarco, Jayce Lee and DM Jefferson all left the yard as well.
The Notre Dame baseball team won the first game of a very pivotal series against a very good Florida State team. Now they have momentum and a chance to win their first ACC series of the season.
