Ace Alston knows teams are going to keep coming for him, even if he committed to Notre Dame. However, when those other schools do try to come calling, he's not answering the door. The 4-star defensive back is shutting down his recruitment, presumably so he can focus on his final year of high school and get ready for the jump to South Bend.
Alston spent last month's Junior Day on an unofficial visit to see the Fighting Irish up close and personal again. It once again, didn't disappoint and once he was done with the visit, he decided it was time to lock things down and make sure everyone knows he's 100% solid to Marcus Freeman and Co.
"1,000 percent. I’m shutting down my recruitment," Alston told Irish Sports Daily recently when asked whether he is still a firm commit to Notre Dame.
Notre Dame football commit Ace Alston shut down his recruitment after spring visit
During his last visit to South Bend, it was clear one coach stood out as a high point. New defensive backs coach Aaron Henry and Ace Alston have long had a good relationship. When Henry was with Illinois he was recruiting the defensive back since he was a freshman in high school.
“As soon as he got on campus, I was the first recruit that he called,” Alston added. “So that just meant a lot to me. Him saying how good I play film-wise and stuff like that, but I’m an even better person. So him just saying all those things and then me actually getting to see him coaching and stuff like that, I feel like both of us just clicked.”
Notre Dame has had a ton of success when it comes to the 2027 recruiting class. Marcus Freeman looks like another Top 10 finish is on the horizon. Not having to worry about keeping Ace Alston and focusing their attention on new prospects will only help.
