Notre Dame football recruiting is on an absolute heater in the month of April. The team has reeled in four commits that are all 4-star or better with the latest being defensive back Ayden Pouncey.

It’s natural for onlookers to wonder just what is the secret to what the Fighting Irish are doing right now. How are they pulling this off? Pouncey, fresh off his commitment on Saturday, answered that question. At least when it came to why he pulled the trigger.

Ayden Pouncey explains why Notre Dame football’s recruiting pitch is impossible to resist

“I committed to Notre Dame because of the love from the coaches and people in the building, how they made me feel comfortable,” Pouncey told On3. “How I fit in with the players on the team and how stable coach Mickens is at Notre Dame were big too. Coach Mickens has been there for five years and doesn’t plan on leaving and neither does coach Freeman. It’s the best of both worlds, they are gonna develop me on and off the field.”

The saga of recruiting Pouncey is one that had quite a few twists and turns. The Irish were not always the front-runners. LSU, in particular seemingly had the upper hand just last month.

Then Notre Dame got back into the race with an unofficial visit by the defensive back.

“After the first time I visited, I really saw how much I liked Notre Dame. Then it really hit me on Wednesday when I went back there,… I knew for sure Notre Dame was the school on that visit.”

“It’s truly a special place with a lot of special people. It is also the best school in the country.”

The Notre Dame football team is certainly wrapping up April on a run. And it’s possible it will not have long to wait in May before it notches its next commitment.
