When Notre Dame became the second Power 4 program to offer offensive lineman Benjamin Coleman, it's safe to say the Irish became the front-runners in his recruitment. The 2028 prospect from Providence Catholic (New Lenox, IL) was blown away by the offer and what he saw in a recent visit to South Bend.
“I was speechless,” Coleman told Irish Sports Daily. "It was like a dream come true. Notre Dame’s always been a spot I wanted to be at. It’s always been what I wanted." Now that he's got that ND offer in hand, it feels like it would be hard for any other school to get him to commit.
Notre Dame football stands out for Illinois offensive tackle Benjamin Coleman
At the moment, the only real competition for Notre Dame is Minnesota. The Golden Gophers were the first to offer the 6-foot-4, 250-pound offensive tackle. However, it seems like Coleman's profile is starting to take off.
Even if and when other schools get involved in Coleman's recruiting before the 2028 prospect can sign on the dotted line, it's hard to see anyone really competing. He's got a great feel for the Irish himself, but he's also got a coach who can talk to him all about being an alum of the prestigious school.
Notre Dame ties keep Benjamin Coleman high on the Irish
“My head coach (Tyler Plantz) went there and played football there. The education is amazing. All the coaches are super nice. I felt super welcome. I thought it was a perfect fit.”
Coleman plans to continue through the recruiting process, with over a year until he can sign on the dotted line. However, the big offensive lineman has made it clear that Notre Dame is the clear frontrunner.
