One of the interesting things about how signing classes and early enrollees are handled these days is that for the second straight year, the Notre Dame football team got one of its future quarterbacks to practice with the team ahead of the big game.

Last year it was CJ Carr who reportedly benefitted enormously from getting to work out with his future teammates as they prepared for their bowl game against Oregon State. This year, its 2025 signee Blake Hebert out there getting some throws in with his new teammates.

Hebert of course, was a late pickup for the Notre Dame football team. He committed just a few weeks after Marcus Freeman and company lost out on Deuce Knight, who had been the class’s commitment for several months.

Notre Dame football early enrollee quarterback already impressing coaches

Hebert is in town as the Irish get ready for the Sugar Bowl. And like Carr before him, the coaching staff is quite happy with what they’re seeing from him.

While he was just a 4-star quarterback prospect, On3 was more than a little impressed with the way he both moved and threw.

“Blake Hebert looks to be one of the toolsiest and most physically-developed quarterbacks thus far in the 2025 cycle and debuts at No. 66 overall in the updated 2025 On300. The Lawrence (Mass.) Central Catholic quarterback is a big, strong-armed passer with high-end athleticism and movement skills.”

That Hebert is able to enroll early and come to bowl practice is especially big considering the repeated news that Notre Dame football isn’t looking for a portal quarterback. While it’s expected that CJ Carr, Steve Angeli or Kenny Minchey will get the first shot at starting in 2025, Hebert will be in the mix.
