The Notre Dame football team had a very good day. It's the best day for the Irish recruiting efforts in a long time, as a matter of fact.

First Marcus Freeman and company managed to flip 2025 4-star offensive lineman Cameron Herron from the Iowa Hawkeyes. Herron visited South Bend during the Irish's game vs Stanford and apparently liked what he saw. That was the first win. The second was stealing a quarterback from the Clemson Tigers.

On Monday afternoon, 2025 quarterback Blake Hebert announced he committed to the Notre Dame football team. He gave a brief thank you to the Clemson coaching staff when he did saying:

"I’d like to start by thanking the Clemson coaching staff as well as the program itself for all they have done for me. With that being said, I have chosen to withdraw my commitment and will spend my next 4 years at another institution.

And from there, announced the other institution was Notre Dame.

Hebert was a kind of "Plan B" for the Golden Domers after they lost out on the battle for Deuce Knight. Knight is a 4-star quarterback out of Mississippi who committed to the Auburn Tigers earlier this month.

Marcus Freeman and company reportedly knew for quite a while that a decommitment was coming. Because they knew, they were able to work on a backup plan. It appears that Hebert was indeed that plan. Though he's talented enough that it's not like he's a not consolation prize.

The Greenwich, Connecticut gunslinger had plenty of offers from Power 4 teams, including Auburn, Nebraska, Penn State and North Carolina before he committed to Clemson.

That the Notre Dame football team went out and grabbed Hebert does seem to mean that they know Knight isn't flippable back to the Fighting Irish at this point. That could be because they know he's solid to Auburn, or it could mean Freeman and company don't want to spend their time and energy recruiting a player who had told them before he was solid for them, and then left.
