Notre Dame football headed for bowls rather than playoffs, analyst says

The Notre Dame football team isn't making the big dance, according to at least one analyst.

There’s a lot of people who think that the Notre Dame football is going to the playoffs. Despite that, the Irish didn’t get any help from their win over Georgia Tech.

But the lack of a boost from another win over another winning team might herald bad news. One analyst even believes the Blue and Gold will find ways to stay out of the playoffs. He thinks they’re going to the Poptarts Bowl instead.

Brett McMurphy of the Action Network has released his weekly bowl projections, and he has the Notre Dame football team out of the playoffs. Instead, he projects that the Irish will face TCU in the secondary bowl game.

Notre Dame football hasn’t won over Brett McMurphy

It’s worth noting that McMurphy has had the Irish in Poptart Bowl ever since they lost to Northern Illinois. The only thing that occasionally has changed during that time is the opponent. So in his view, the Irish have not beaten anybody of high enough quality since that loss to prove they belong in the playoff.

He has a point there. Though it feels like a win over a Top 25 Louisville team, followed by a dominating performance over the Yellowjackets, should have given them a chance to get to the playoffs.

However, McMurphy is apparently a little harder to convince than some other people, as most analysts around the country have them making the playoffs. Perhaps beating up on Navy this weekend will change things.

Notre Dame football will try and make their case one more time on Saturday.
