Notre Dame's injury situation up front just got more complicated with surprise news

Notre Dame football's offensive line has even more questions due to a continuing injury issue.

As Notre Dame gets ready to start spring practice, which is expected to lead to a run at the National Championship, head coach Marcus Freeman shared some disappointing news about his offensive front. Charles Jagusah, who was supposed to return from injury by now, has experienced several setbacks. The new outlook is that the veteran offensive lineman might not even be back by the start of fall camp.

Jagusah missed the 2025 season while dealing with a broken left humerus suffered in an ATV accident. According to the athletic director of sports medicine, Rob Hunt, Jagusah will have a fifth surgery on Wednesday for that humerus injury.

There is hope that this will allow him to fully heal. However, the setbacks the offensive lineman has faced, along with the recovery period for yet another surgery, mean there's no official timeline for him to return to the field for Notre Dame.

Charles Jagusah's fifth surgery leaves Notre Dame football's offensive line in a difficult spot

With the latest news, the story for Charles Jagusah continues to be the same. The talent for the big lineman has never been in question. He's long had analysts projecting him to have a long NFL career. The problem, of course, is that he can't get healthy long enough to deliver on his promise.

That his latest injury isn't football-related continues to be a problem for the player. Add in that he's having a heck of a time recovering, and his Fighting Irish career is quickly moving in the wrong direction.

If there's a bright side for the Notre Dame football team, it's that it has had to play plenty of games without Jagusah available. Still, both sides would love for the veteran player to finally get healthy and lead the push up front in 2026
