The Notre Dame football quarterback competition is going to have plenty of ups and downs. There will be front runners and dark horses. And there will be times when one player looks like the favorite and another is struggling.

Credit CJ Carr as one who seems to have his head on straight. He knows that he can only control what he can control. And he knows that he shouldn’t try to read much into situations like what team he’s taking snaps with or how many snaps he’s getting.

Carr talked to the media on Friday and talked about how he’s approaching the Notre Dame football quarterback competition. One question was how the young QB was dealing with how the snaps were split and what he thought about when he was taking snaps with the backups and his answer certainly sounded like something someone who has their head in the right place would say.

"Honestly, that's not something I worry about,” Carr said. If I'm with the ones, then I gotta be elite. If I'm with the threes, I gotta be elite."

It’s hard to think of a better answer to the situation. It’s the kind of answer that shows Carr’s approach is correct. He’s taking things seriously, but isn’t worried about things being lined up against him. And he believes he’ll get a fair shake. That’s especially important when dealing with a competition like the one the Notre Dame football team is looking like this spring.
