A lot of ink has been spilled about how impressive it is that Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame have built an NFL alumni pipeline. The NFL legacy support system has brought in several recruits. However, it helped the program recruit Corderro Bennett.
Bennett recently visited South Bend to get a better look at the Irish and everything they have to offer. In the process, the wide receiver prospect made the trip for Notre Dame's win over Rice, met Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald, and didn't waste the chance to pick his brain.
“That was cool,” Bennett recently told Irish Sports Daily. “I talked to him, asked him for some advice,” Bennett said. His conversation with Fitzgerald went well beyond the usual niceties,, and the wide receiver prospect got advice from the NFL great on how he can improve moving forward.
“He was just telling me about the little things,” Bennett said. “Putting that extra work in is going to help you in the long run. Having separation in your routes. If they're right on you, you'll get tackled. But if you got three yards of separation, you're getting a touchdown.”

“Being physical, getting out of your breaks. Just a lot of stuff that separates you from being a decent receiver to a great receiver.”
Corderro Bennett is a 3-star wide receiver in the 2028 recruiting class. The 6-foot-5, 189-pound prospect plays for Morton High School in Hammond, Indiana. That makes it easier for the in-state player to take multiple trips to see South Bend. His trip to Rice was his second visit to see Notre Dame.
Bennett is ranked the No. 423 player in the 2028 class, the No. 65 player at his position, and the No. 7 player in Indiana, according to the latest Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s still a bit under the radar, so he hasn’t earned a ranking in the composite databases. Still, a lot of big teams are pursuing him.
He doesn’t have an offer from Notre Dame yet, but other Power 4 interest could eventually lead the Fighting Irish to make that pitch. Bennett has accumulated more than 10 scholarship offers during his recruitment. His reported offer list includes Auburn, Ball State, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas State, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Purdue, Toledo, Western Michigan and Wisconsin, among others. Indiana offered Bennett on January 29, 2026, two days after Illinois extended an offer.
As a sophomore at Morton in 2025, Bennett caught 18 passes for 373 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games. He averaged 20.7 yards per reception and 41.4 receiving yards per game, with a 44-yard reception. His 373 receiving yards accounted for all 373 of his recorded all-purpose yards in the MaxPreps statistics. Bennett finished second on Morton in total touchdowns and led the Governors with eight receiving touchdowns.
After meeting with Larry Fitzgerald, Bennett will likely want to attract more interest from Notre Dame. Until then, he’ll continue checking out other Power 4 programs. After visiting Ohio State earlier this month, he has upcoming trips planned to Indiana, Kansas State, Wisconsin, and Kentucky, and could add others.
