The Notre Dame football team stole a big recruiting victory on Thursday when Brayden Parks chose the Irish over Oregon. On Monday, Marcus Freeman could make it two-for-two in the last seven days. 2028 defensive lineman Darieon Prescott will announce his commitment on Monday, July 27, and he’ll be choosing between the Irish, the Ducks and the Texas A&M Aggies.
Interestingly enough, the Irish are also facing off against former defensive coordinator Mike Elko once again. The Aggies and the Golden Domers have faced off over several recruits this cycle and have essentially hit a stalemate as far as who has the edge.
In other words, if Notre Dame scores its third 2028 commit in the form of Prescott, it will give Freeman a bit of extra bragging room by fighting off two of the more commonly occurring recruiting rivals. And then, of course, there’s the bonus of ND getting one of the best players at his position to kick off the next cycle.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound 4-star edge defender from Bolingbrook High School (Bolingbrook, IL) is ranked as the No. 18 player in the 2028 class, the No. 5 player at his edge position and the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois according to Rivals Industry Rankings.

Notre Dame has worked hard to make Illinois a pipeline once again after spending the last decade recruiting from all over the country to compete against teams from all over the country. As the heartland has started to produce higher talent levels and more Power 4 prospects, Freeman and his staff would love to have more commitments coming from right outside their backdoor.
In addition to the Fighting Irish, the Ducks and Aggies, Prescott has had plenty of attention from the best programs in the sport. The defender has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, and USC, among many others.
It’s no secret why the big defensive lineman is so popular. Prescott recorded 65 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 8 pass breakups, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries during his 2025 sophomore season. As a freshman in 2024, he totaled 66 tackles, five sacks and two blocked kicks while earning MaxPreps Freshman All-America honors.
Notre Dame is sitting solidly as the No. 2 school in the 2027 recruiting rankings. However, they’re behind a few other schools when it comes to the next cycle. Adding Darieon Prescott when he announces on July 27 would be a heck of a shot in the arm.
