Notre Dame defensive line coach Charlie Partridge is on quite a roll since arriving in South Bend this offseason. The Irish assistant is amassing one heck of a recruiting class in his first go. The heater that’s been rolling right along, especially since June, reached a boiling point again on Monday afternoon when Darieon Prescott announced his commitment while appearing on the Pat McAfee Show.
Prescott’s recruitment came together relatively quickly as he announced late last week he would finally make his pick between the Golden Domers, Oregon and Texas A&M. That makes Monday’s announcement just a little more delicious as Marcus Freeman & Co. have squared off with the Ducks and Aggies already a couple of times this cycle.
Darieon Prescott’s commitment gives Notre Dame two wins over Dan Lanning’s crew in the last week. Last Thursday, Partridge fueled the aforementioned heater once again with the commitment of 4-star defensive lineman Brayden Parks. The Irish defensive line coach going 2-for-2 against the Ducks is big for the 2028 recruiting class and bragging rights moving forward.
Prescott, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound 4-star edge defender from Bolingbrook High School (Bolingbrook, IL), is ranked as the consensus No. 18 player in the 2028 class, the No. 5 player at his edge position, and the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois.

In addition to the Aggies, Ducks, and Fighting Irish, Prescott had plenty of attention from some of the best schools in the country. Prescott has offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, LSU, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and USC, among many others.
It’s not hard to see why he’s got so much attention already. The defender recorded 65 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 8 pass breakups, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries during his 2025 sophomore season. As a freshman in 2024, he totaled 66 tackles, five sacks and two blocked kicks while earning MaxPreps Freshman All-America honors.
In landing one of the best players in the 2028 class, Notre Dame has scored yet another premier defensive star as it gets off to a quick start in next year’s cycle. Prescott is the first defensive lineman, joining defensive back Andre Jones (the son of Julius Jones and brother of 2027 commit Julius Jones Jr.) and kicker Owen Davies.
As a recruit, the sell was straightforward. Partridge and the defensive staff have been recruiting the defensive line at an all-time level during the 2027 class, and they want to kick off the 2028 cycle the right way with the Illinois native. As far as what Notre Dame has on deck to sign this December, Partridge has landed Parks, Abraham Sesay, David Folorunsho, Aidan O'Neil, Jackson Vaughn, and Richie Flanigan.
For Notre Dame fans, the commitment of Darieon Prescott was one they might have seen coming, considering he got several predictions to the Fighting Irish not long after he announced his commitment date. Still, now that he’s gone on ESPN and made it official, the celebrations can really begin.
