When Benjamin Morrison went down to injury, Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman made it clear he wanted to see his young defensive backs step up. At least one answered the call.

Freshman DB Leonard Moore stepped up and has been stepping up every week. But the last few games, he’s really found a way to stand out. So much so that against the Navy Midshipmen, he put out one of the best performances of any freshmen in the sport.

PFF has Moore ranked as 10th best true freshman in the sport. The Notre Dame football freshman got that ranking among any players that had at least 15 snaps. The list was also at any position, making it just a little bit more impressive.

Moore got a 71.9 overall rating for the week. It wasn’t due to his tackling numbers, more his coverage, as he was credited with just one tackle against Navy, but did have an interception.

In limited time this fall, Moore has been a surprisingly great player in the Irish secondary. It would seem that his future is quite bright as he continues to get better every game.

On the season, the true freshman has 21 tackles, 2 passes defensed and a forced fumble. Against the Midshipmen, Moore recorded the first interception of his career. And at the moment, it looks like that career is only going to get better the more he plays for the Notre Dame football team.
