Now that it appears that Trinidad Chambliss is done at Ole Miss, it seems the Rebels will give a former 5-star Notre Dame commit a shot. Those who followed the recruitment of Deuce Knight closely might remember that Lane Kiffin's former school was long considered a top candidate to steal the quarterback away from the Fighting Irish.

In the end, it was the Auburn Tigers who won the protracted recruiting battle. In his true freshman season, Knight played very sparingly, but he did start a late-season game against Mercer, where he showed off the kind of talent he contained in his arm and legs.

Knight entered the transfer portal a few weeks ago and was immediately one of the more intriguing names up for grabs. While Notre Dame was never considered in the running, some Irish fans wanted to know if he might eventually end up on a school where he'd play against ND.

Early rumors had the quarterback going somewhere like Boston College. That certainly would have been an interesting twist, as Knight could have been starting in 2026 against the school he was pledged to for so long.

Instead, the only way Notre Dame would face off against Deuce Knight and his new team is if they meet in the postseason. The quarterback joins Ole Miss, and its new head coach, Dan Golding, who led Ole Miss to an unexpected College Football Playoff run after taking over the team just ahead of its first CFP game.

Knight finished his true freshman season with 259 passing yards and two touchdowns. He added 13 carries for 178 yards and four additional scores during two appearances. While he hasn't been guaranteed a starting spot, he's the frontrunner for the job.

Notre Dame fans would almost certainly love to see Deuce Knight square off against their team next year as it likely means both teams are in the College Football Playoff once again.
