While Tommy Rees and the Cleveland Browns stole one assistant coach from the Notre Dame football team, they apparently tried to poach another but were rebuffed.

The Irish have been going through a kind of staff raiding since the National Championship Game. Al Golden was the first out the door and others have followed suit. However, in the last few days, the Irish have managed to keep some of the guys that NFL teams were coming after. Joe Rudolph seemingly said thanks but no thanks to the Chicago Bears. It appears that wide receiver coach Mike Brown said the same to the Browns.

According to Matt Freeman of Irish Sports Daily, Brown was offered the tight end coach job from Tommy Rees. However, he decided to stick with the Notre Dame football team instead.

Freeman added that there were other teams in the NFL that came calling as well. Brown is viewed as a rising star in the profession, so keeping him around the Notre Dame program should be viewed as a huge win for head coach Marcus Freeman.

One has to believe that at least part of that demand was in fact because there had been so many other departures this offseason. Generally, when a team is losing coaches, other teams will come after them to see if they can keep the losses coming.

With the report that Brown has officially said no, the Notre Dame football team seems like it’s done losing coaches. Now it needs to close the deal on a GM.
