Just weeks ahead of the game’s official release, developer Electronic Arts showed off the ratings of every player in the game. It also allowed fans to sort by various search terms, including rookies. That search shows that Love is the top-ranked offensive rookie in the game.
The former Irish star was selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. While the real Cards coaches won’t commit to him being the starting running back, it’s clear that Madden developers believe he should be an easy pick for the job.
The first ratings release for the players in Madden NFL 27 shows that the former Notre Dame star has an 82 overall rating. His 94 speed rating is also the best among any rookie players in the game, making sure that he’s going to be one heck of a fun time to play with.
Former Ohio State safety Caleb Downs is tied with Love for the highest overall rating as he’s the top defensive player in the game with an identical 82 overall rating. Downs will be playing his trade for the Dallas Cowboys.

Anyone who has played much Madden knows that while Downs’ rating is impressive, Love has a much better chance of being a high-impact rookie in the game, especially teamed with the kind of speed the developers believe he has. An agility of 92, a break tackle of 82, and a change of direction rating of 94 also mean he’s going to be really, really hard to bring down once he gets the ball in his hands.
Not only is Love the highest-rated offensive rookie in the game, but he’s the highest-rated offensive skill player by a wide margin among rookies. The nearest player in that category is wide receiver Carnell Tate, who carries a 77 overall rating.
Funnily enough, the next-highest running back in the rookie class for Madden NFL 27 is Jeremiyah Love’s former Notre Dame teammate. Seattle Seahawks’ first-round pick Jadarian Price clocks in with a 75 overall rating.
