In the lead-up to the College Football Playoffs, analysts all over the country decided to pit Notre Dame against Miami for the final at-large bid. The argument for the Hurricanes was that they beat the Irish in a head-to-head match-up in the season's opening weekend.

While Mario Cristobal's squad won out, got into the field, and then won on Saturday, the Irish are clearly still living rent-free in the heads of the Hurricanes. The 'Canes coach made comments after the game that were clearly aimed at ND. In the locker room, his players specifically called out running back Jeremiyah Love.

"Hey Jeremiyah Love, you mad?" said offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa on an Instagram post, as another player cheesed next to him. The shot was unmistakable. It was the latest in the rebirth of an old rivalry between Miami and Notre Dame that will continue in South Bend next season.

Why Miami players called out Notre Dame football star Jeremiyah Love

The verbal shot was the latest in what has been a tough weekend for the Irish. Neither Miami nor Texas A&M looked particularly good on Saturday. The 10-3 score revealed both offenses struggling quite a bit more than when either team played Notre Dame in the first two weeks of the season.

Miami players calling out Love wasn't simply them landing on one particular player for the Irish. It turns out they were directly responding to the running back openly rooting for the Aggies in the first round of the College Football Playoff game.

Last week, Love posted a short Instagram post of his own where he said, "Texas A&M, you know the job." Unfortunately, they didn't get the job done.

What makes this whole situation worse for the Notre Dame star is that he won't have a chance to get the last laugh. While the Irish will face off against the Hurricanes next year, Love won't be there. He's already announced he'll head to the NFL, where he'll watch the November tilt next fall from afar.
