Jeremiyah Love's performance at the NFL Combine once again reminded Notre Dame football fans just how lucky they were to have him, no matter how brief his stay in South Bend. For those who needed a further reminder, an interview where the star running back made it clear he almost went to Michigan should do the trick.
Appearing on the Rich Eisen show earlier this week, Love told the former ESPN personality that he nearly flipped his commitment from the Fighting Irish to the Wolverines late in the recruiting cycle.
"I was committed to Notre Dame, and it came to signing day. I was literally this close to going to Michigan," Love said Friday on The Rich Eisen Show. "But I was like, ‘I’m committed to Notre Dame. I’m just going to stick with them. Even though I kind of want to go to Michigan. I kind of want to go there. I’m just going to stick it out with Notre Dame. I’m going to stick with my first choice.'"

That he decided to stick to his first choice was also apparently a massive mistake by Jim Harbaugh and his staff. Love also told Eisen that he wanted to follow a high school friend to Ann Arbor, but the communication from Michigan wasn't there.
"I ain't talk to nobody," Love said. "But my homeboy, Fredrick Moore, he went to Michigan. I was kind of like, gonna go with him. And I remember it very vividly. I'm telling him, 'I’m trying to go to Michigan. I’m trying to connect with y’all’s coaches. But nobody’s hitting me up. I don’t have any connection with anybody.'"
Love's arrival in South Bend was followed by being just a few plays away from a National Title in 2024. While snubbed by the CFP Committee, it's not hard to imagine Notre Dame would have had a real chance of winning it all in 2025 as well.
