Jordan Faison transformed from a young guy striving to get ahead while playing two different sports at Notre Dame into a receiver who mentors other receivers as they learn the ropes or a new position. His teammates recognize his leadership both on and off the field, and his coaches do too. Wide receiver coach Mike Brown recently highlighted the strides Faison has made since he committed to football only.
“The player is the player, but more important than that is just his leadership and the way guys look up to him,” Brown explained to the media after a recent practice. “He’s a great example for the young guys in how he goes about his business, how he studies film, how he works, how he practices. All of those things.”
That’s not to say Faison doesn’t miss lacrosse. But he knows his future is with the Notre Dame football team. He also knows the team's goal this year is to win it all, and that takes his full focus.
Mike Brown says Jordan Faison’s leadership has become vital for Notre Dame football
“Going out there and watching the lacrosse games, it hurts a little bit not being out there with your brothers,” stated Faison. “You miss a sport you used to play, but I had to make a decision.”
One of the big reasons the Notre Dame receiver decided to lean into football and say goodbye to lacrosse is nagging injuries that have impacted his availability over the years. This spring, Faison said he’s feeling good and not bothered by many bumps and bruises. If he can stay healthy, he could be poised for an even better 2026 than his breakout 2025 campaign.
Last fall, Faison led the Irish with 49 catches. He parlayed those receptions into 640 yards and 4 touchdowns. It’s not a coincidence that he made his decision to only play football last spring.
Jordan Faison’s position coach sees a new type of leadership out of the receiver this year. Notre Dame will benefit directly from his continued growth and indirectly from his taking on a player-coach role with the younger players. Big things are ahead this fall.
