The Notre Dame football team is busy preparing for its game against Stanford and hoping a win can help them move further into the Top 25. But that doesn’t mean Marcus Freeman isn’t also very aware this is an important game for recruiting purposes.

It’s an especially important game now, considering the Blue and Gold are hosting a commit to a team that wears Black and Gold on Saturdays. 4-star offensive lineman Cameron Herron is in South Bend to check out the Irish vs Cardinal game. He’s currently a commit to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Before his visit, Herron went on the record saying that Notre Dame football definitely excites him. However, it should be noted that he wants people to know that he’s not exactly wavering on Iowa. This visit could be little more than wanting to see what one of the most storied programs in the sport has to offer at a home game.

On the other hand, it’s possible that when he gets an official offer on Saturday things could change. Herron chose Iowa over Cincinnati, Louisville, Northwestern, West Virginia, Indiana and Purdue among others. The Irish coming calling is a whole other thing.

Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish head into the weekend with On3’s No. 13 ranked recruiting class. Herron is one of two official visitors alongside fellow On300 prospect Jalen Cooper. Cooper is committed to SMU.

The Notre Dame football team is also trying to steal a Michigan tight end right out from under the Wolverines’ back yard. It could end up being a pretty massive recruiting weekend for Marcus Freeman’s crew.
