Former Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields had such a good run up to the NFL Draft that some analysts believe he'd go in the first round. While that early a selection never materialized, the New York Giants took the big wide receiver in the third round, making him just the third Fighting Irish player to be drafted so far.
The Giants also clearly like what they saw in Fields. They were originally out of the third round but traded back in with the Cleveland Browns in order to acquire the 6-foot-5 wideout. The Giants sent No. 105 and No. 145 in this year’s draft, along with a 2027 fourth-round pick, to the Browns in exchange for No. 74.
Former Notre Dame receiver Malachi Fields heads to the New York Giants
Fields played just one year for Notre Dame, but he made an impact on his teammates as a leader and as someone who could come up with the big catch. He also kept his head up and continues to show out, despite not putting up anywhere near the numbers he did at Virginia over the four years prior.
When Fields made his way to the Senior Bowl, NFL scouts really started taking notice of the kind of worker he was. He's not someone who will blow past defensive backs with his speed, but his size and ability to use it as a weapon will make him someone who could shine at the next level.
Malachi Fields might be a steal for the Giants out of Notre Dame
Fields' official Scouts Inc scouting report shows someone who could help a Giants offense out big time under new head coach John Harbaugh.
"Fields is a long, big-bodied receiver. Though he's not a vertical threat, he has dynamic traits and backed it up with good testing numbers at the combine. He is efficient at getting in and out of breaks, has great deceleration at the top of routes, and shows some burst out of his cuts. Fields does a good job of not telegraphing his routes, though he did not run the largest route tree. He plays strongly through contact, and he provides a big catch radius"
With Jeremiyah Love, Jadarian Price, and Malachi Fields all going in the first three rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Notre Dame football has some very good representation
