The Notre Dame football team will depend on plenty of new faces in the 2025 season, but none may make a bigger impact than transfer wide receiver Malachi Fields.

Fields, a veteran wideout who came to South Bend from Virginia over the winter, is a bit of an x-factor for Notre Dame this fall. If Marcus Freeman makes the right call at quarterback and the Irish are a little more wide open in Mike Denbrock's second season, Fields stands a chance to put up some huge numbers.

Malachi Fields poised to lift Notre Dame passing attack

One such analyst who believes Fields will make a massive impact on the Notre Dame football team's offense is WSBT's Pete Byrne, who believes the transfer receiver could "shock people" with the kind of numbers he'll put up this season.

"Malachi Fields, I think is gonna shock people with how good he is," Byrne said in a recent segment. "I talked to some people that had been at some of the workouts. And the word, the description that came up to me was Michael Floyd skill set."

"Now, can he be Michael Floyd Good? That's a different question, but a Michael Floyd skill set."

For those not aware of Notre Dame history, Floyd player for the Fighting Irish from 2008-2011 and put up some incredible numbers as a wide receiver for the program, especailly in his final two seasons. Floyd caught 79 passes for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns in his junior season and followed that up with 100 catches for 1,147 yards and 9 touchdowns in his senior campaign.

Floyd then went on and played seven seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Commanders.

If Malachi Fields can give the Notre Dame football team a Michael Floyd type performance in 2025, it's a safe bet that everyone involved would be plenty happy with that production.
