It's clear that there is at least a chance that Notre Dame could lose head coach Marcus Freeman to the NFL. But what almost everyone not named Joel Klatt believes is that the Michigan Wolverines have virtually no shot at luring Freeman away from South Bend. Count Urban Meyer as one who thinks that idea is ludicrous.
The former Florida Gators, Utah Utes, and Ohio State coach talked about the real reason Freeman is getting mentioned for a job he almost certainly wouldn't take if offered on a recent episode of the Triple Option Podcast. The Irish coach will likely get a raise and a longer contract.
"I don’t have much inside scoop on this," Meyer said. "But someone said Marcus Freeman. What are you, out of your mind? … When you hear that stuff, that’s an agent out there, throwing his name out. I can promise you, you’re going to hear the words ‘extension’ and ‘a raise.'"

Marcus Freeman rumors highlight Notre Dame football’s leverage
Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua has gone on record saying that if Freeman were ever a target of another school, the Irish would do whatever it took to keep him in South Bend. The head coach did get an extension and a raise last year.
This year, NFL teams are said to be interested in him. However, even if Michigan does come calling, it's doubtful Freeman even answers the phone. Interestingly, there is another former Notre Dame coach who could be a good fit. There's been some talk that former Irish OC Tommy Rees might be a candidate for the job, and he would accept the offer.
