Marcus Freeman said he explored interest from multiple NFL teams this offseason, including the New York Giants. However, the Notre Dame head coach chose to stay in South Bend because the Fighting Irish job is simply the best in the country. The comments came during a recent interview with On3's Chris Low, where Freeman laid out what went on this offseason and his reasons for turning down any and all interest elsewhere over the winter.

"I believe I truly have one of the greatest jobs in America," Freeman told Low. "So while it was intriguing and a great opportunity for me to learn what being a leader of an NFL franchise or organization is like, you’ve got to remember that when perception says, ‘Oh, there's a better opportunity for you,’ that’s an outsider's opinion."

Marcus Freeman lays out why Notre Dame is such a draw for the head coach

"For me, the guy that is here," the Notre Dame head coach added. "The guy that is leading this program, there is no better opportunity." He then dropped the line that should make Fighting Irish fans swoon over Freeman even more than they already are.

"I mean, I’m at Notre Dame.”

Notre Dame might beat out any and all NFL teams forever

Freeman's comments come as more than a few analysts still believe that at some point, he'll make the jump to the next level. So far, though, plenty of teams that would have been perfect landing spots have come calling. He's reportedly told them all no.

Others believe that the only job Marcus Freeman might leave Notre Dame for would be Ohio State. His alma mater is expected to be a big draw if the job ever comes open. However, as he continues to build a legacy in South Bend, prognosticators have to wonder why he'd ever leave.
