The Notre Dame football team has stopped worrying about Marcus Freeman moving on to another program or the NFL … for now. But should Fighting Irish fans still be worried about the possibility of rumors around their head coach popping up again next offseason? On3's Chris Low thinks those Marcus Freeman-to-the-NFL rumors are here to stay. Until he finally leaves.
Low appeared on the Andy & Ari show earlier this week and laid out that Freeman will be an NFL head coach at some point. The question now is how much success the Fighting Irish can wring out of the head coach before he moves on.
Marcus Freeman has Notre Dame football facing NFL rumors that may never fully disappear
"I know Notre Dame people don't want to hear this," Low said. "I think Marcus Freeman will be in the NFL at some point. He will be a head coach in the NFL."
"There's too much interest at that level, and I talked to, again, people I know in the NFL. They love his ability to connect with players. They love the fact that he's been a play caller on defense. He's called his own plays, that he's coached at a place now like Notre Dame, where you guys know what a fishbowl that is. In a place that hasn't won a title."
Marcus Freeman offers Notre Dame football time even if NFL interest stays real
There is one little piece of info that should keep Irish fans from getting too worked up. Marcus Freeman is still young; he's only been a head coach for a few years. He's got time to do what Notre Dame fans want him to do, and then keep going for a little while. The NFL will always be there.Â
