It's been a frustrating freshman season for Notre Dame wide receiver Micah Gilbert. After sitting out most of spring practice with one injury, he'll be missing the biggest game of the season for the Irish with another one.
Gilbert was among a handful of Irish players listed on the availability report before the USC game who are out. He's a new injury, and the first real new addition on the report. The young wide receiver is out for the game with a hand injury.
Micah Gilbert joins offensive linemen Charles Jagusah and Peter Jones, who are listed "out for the game." Center Ashton Craig is listed out for the season. That's no surprise considering Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman announced Craig was injured in the game against North Carolina State and would miss the rest of the year.
Notre Dame football injury report offers good news despite new WR injury
While Gilbert will miss the game against USC, the Irish could get one of their top wideouts back in Jaden Greathouse. Once predicted to have a breakout in 2025, he's missed the last few games and didn't put up big numbers when he did play.
Devonta Smith, who is in the same injury boat as Greathouse, could play against the Trojans. Notre Dame has listed both as questionable after previously being considered out.
While Micah Gilbert has only played 22 snaps so far this season, there is a chance that he could have seen action against USC as Notre Dame turns to answers to replace Jaden Greathouse.
