Earlier this week, Notre Dame football offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock addressed the media to give a kind of update on how things are shaking out in spring practice. While he talked about a number of subjects, the wide receiver room came up a couple of different times.

He first talked about how the receivers this year need to be more consistent than they were in 2024. He talked about how there were too many drops. While that came off as little harsh but fair, there were other instances where he was quite happy about the progress the young wideouts have made in camp.

Mike Denbrock praises growth of Notre Dame’s young receivers

The Notre Dame football OC was specifically asked if he saw real progress from young receivers and while he wouldn’t say yes to one particular player, he confirmed some of the new arrivals have impressed him.

“Yeah. I’m not ready to single anybody out. I just like the direction of the entire group,” Denbrock replied. “They just seem like their understanding of what we’re asking them to do is at a whole ‘nother level than it was a year ago.”

Debrock added that he believes he knows why the Irish receivers are showing some real growth this spring already.

"“It kinda gets back to the same discussion we started with. The details are so important in everything that we do. The things that they’re doing and showing on the practice field now are way more detail-oriented than they were at any time last year, even at the end of the season. We’ve been able to make some progress just because of them understanding what to do better.”"

With a new quarterback at the helm, the wide receivers are going to need to see some real improvement if the Notre Dame football team wants to get back to the championship game. It looks like that could indeed be a possibility.
