When it comes to the player that the Notre Dame football team needs to have a big season, Jeremiyah Love is the consensus pick. When it comes to the player who could be a bit of a surprise, there’s a larger group to choose from.
“Breakout” players are always an interesting breed. What exactly makes a “breakout” player in the eyes of most analysts and fans? Is it someone who goes from solid to superstar? How about relative unknown to guy the team can count on in big moments? Whatever definition you might use, ESPN has put together a list of players it believes will be “breakout” players for some of the best teams in the country.
For the Notre Dame football team, that breakout player is none other than Jaden Greathouse. And after spending the last few years being overshadowed by one teammate or another, it feels as though he might be ready to step up.
Notre Dame football’s Jaden Greathouse pegged as breakout candidate
“Until the CFP semifinal and national championship game, Greathouse had only 359 yards receiving. But in those final two games against Penn State and Ohio State, Greathouse stepped up for 13 receptions for 233 yards and three touchdowns,” Jake Trotter wrote. “In the second half against the Buckeyes, Greathouse spearheaded a furious Notre Dame comeback that came up just short. That spectacular ending could prove to be a springboard for Greathouse to be even greater in 2025”
Injuries have certainly played a part in Jaden Greathouse not reaching the levels that were expected of him when he first arrived in South Bend. It appears that he’s got a real chance to rise to the occasion in 2025.
There is of course, the added bonus that if Jaden Greathouse is the breakout player for the Notre Dame football team, it would mean that whoever won the quarterback job was obviously the right choice. Win win for the Fighting Irish..
