When it comes to the Notre Dame football team and its quarterback race, there were always going to be growing pains. Considering it's the first day of practice, it's important to take everything with a grain of salt, especially when talking about CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey who simply don't have much background as QB1. However, reports from both signcal callers first practice are not great.
Following the first day of camp, most onlookers agreed that the quarterback battle is more wide open than some might think. However, so far it's not because one of the candidates played better than expected. Instead, it's because both quarterbacks struggled mightily.
Early struggles underline the inexperience at Notre Dame’s QB1 spot
The frontrunner, CJ Carr, had an especially rough practice, throwing 3 interceptions to Notre Dame football defenders. Tae Johnson was the man who got two of those interceptions. And that's good for the Irish defense, but bad for the Notre Dame offense.
It's very, very early in the quarterback battle and nothing can really be drawn from the first day of fall camp. If anything this is a reminder that while analysts think they know that Carr will win the job, absolutely nothing is determined yet.
It's possible that Minchey can lean on having done this kind of thing before to fall back on. The coaches are certainly not going to say who is in the lead at this point but Marcus Freeman did say he wanted to review tape to see why the three interceptions happened.
For now, the Notre Dame football team just reminded its fanbase that both quarterbacks are both inexperienced and rusty.
