As Notre Dame football gets ready for the Sugar Bowl, the the team is also preparing for the offseason. After all, if the Irish happen to lose on Wednesday night, their season is suddenly over and its time to plan for 2025.
One of the big questions for next fall is going to be at quarterback. With Riley Leonard moving on, it’s assumed that Steve Angeli, Kenny Minchey, CJ Carr or Blake Hebert will take over the starting role, but there is a bit of a twist.
New rumors popped up over the weekend that the Notre Dame football team might go portal shopping. Those rumors say that the Irish are in fact, set to land a “big name” though just who it might be is still very up in the air.
Notre Dame football fans need to consider the source
It appears these rumors were started by Colin Cowherd, who talked about how he was hearing “whispers” of a big name quarterback going to South Bend after the playoffs are over.
The implication here is that either Jalen Milroe is leaving Alabama or Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is heading Marcus Freeman’s way. However, it’s worth noting that Cowherd is hardly dialed in when it comes to college football.
Fans should also keep in mind that Freeman himself has said that with the signing of Blake Hebert in the 2025 class, that the coaching staff is not interested in a portal quarterback. At least not a starter.
After the rumors started swirling on social media, Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman was among those who made ti clear that Notre Dame football had again shot down the rumors. That seems to close the book on this for now. Though it seems likely the rumors will be around for a while.
