Following the first day of Notre Dame football's fall camp, head coach Marcus Freeman talked to the media about several different topics. Unsurprisingly, the conversation quickly turned to the starting quarterback and who might win the job. It also turned to how he felt after both CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey struggled in practice, with the two signal callers combining for four interceptions.
Unsurprisingly, Freeman was unfazed, though he also clearly wasn't happy. One of his first comments was that he was going to have to review the video and see exactly why some of the mistakes were made.
Marcus Freeman emphasizes Notre Dame football consistency and rotations before declaring a starting QB
He also talked about how it was the first practice of fall camp and he then transitioned to what he'll be looking for from the guy who eventually wins the starting job for the Notre Dame football team.
Freeman added that he wants to see consistency from the quarterback position, and he feels like the starter will emerge from who will find a way to show that consistency. He wants to see who can take care of the football, keep the offense moving forward, but he went back to preaching consistency.
Freeman added that he will rotate both Car and Minchey between groups, the goal there is to make sure that any good or bad plays aren't just because of who they are surrounded by.
Freeman ended that section of his press conference by making it clear that he's nowhere near ready to announce a starter for the Notre Dame football team. When he sees some consistency from either Carr or Minchey, he'll be prepared to name a starter.
