Now that Abraham Sesay is officially a member of the Notre Dame football team's 2027 class, the 5-star edge isn't shy about sharing just why he picked the Fighting Irish. As he said right when he committed, what the South Bend school offers both on and off the field is why he chose them over several Power 4 programs.

"Notre Dame will maximize my success on and off the field," Sesay told Mike Singer shortly after he announced his commitment. "Being a part of what they’re building and what they’ve already established will benefit me and my family. I’m very excited to get to work.”

Sesay went on to say that while it took him a little while to pull the trigger, finally, Notre Dame was one of those schools that stood out early and often. He added that he often felt a pull toward the school in South Bend, but in the last few days, he knew Marcus Freeman's program was where he wanted to go for sure. His official visit last weekend was likely the deciding factor, and he knew he had to make the announcement.

“Notre Dame has always been at the forefront of my recruitment,” Sesay added. “Hanging out with the players and being able to bond with them, it was amazing. I really felt like I fit in.”

Abraham Sesay’s firm pledge gives Notre Dame football huge recruiting confidence

He fit in so well that the defender says he told the Irish staff on Saturday he was committing. He then kept the rest of the Notre Dame world sitting anxiously and hoping for the best. They got their reward on Tuesday afternoon when he made his pledge public. Unlike some other prospects this time of year, he didn't set up a big planned live announcement; he told people when he was ready to go.

Considering the 5-star edge had more than 30 offers, including from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, and Wisconsin, among many others, there's a question as to whether he'll stick to his commitment. In this day and age, schools don't stop recruiting players, even if they commit. Sesay said that won't be the case with him.

“I’m not someone to go against my word,” he told Singer. “The word commitment is a commitment. I gave them my word and told them I’d be committing to the University of Notre Dame, and I’m going to keep my word.”

That's especially good news coming from the player ranked No. 27 nationally, No. 6 at EDGE, and No. 3 in the state of Pennsylvania. Now Notre Dame can watch and wait and see if he can improve on a junior year in high school that saw him dominate his opponents. Abraham Sesay finished 2025 with 80 tackles and 13 sacks. With him in the fold, Marcus Freeman and his staff will turn their focus to another visit weekend with some big targets starting on Friday.
