If Miami Hurricanes commit Kenton Dopson decides to take some visits and see if the grass is greener, the Notre Dame football team wants to be one of those teams getting a say in where he ends up.
The Fighting Irish have had some success already with the 2027 class. With Ellis McGaskin on the defensive side of the ball and 4-star quarterback Teddy Jarrard committing earlier this week, that next generation of Golden Domers is looking good so far.
Notre Dame football enters the race as a top defensive recruit weighs opening his Miami pledge
According to Rivals, Dopson is open to taking other visits, even as he remains committed to the 'Canes. The Notre Dame football team is trying to edge its way in there. USC, Florida State, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas could also be moving on and hoping to steal the 4-star defensive back away.
Dopson has been committed to Miami since March but the Norland (Miami, FL) product is wanting to make sure that he made the right decision. Considering he's one of the best players in the 2027 class, it's not hard to see why there's all sorts of teams trying to convince him he needs to rethink things.
The defensive back is currently ranked as the No. 6 defensive in the class as well as the No. 6 player in the state of Florida. He's also the No. 44 player overall according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
One other interesting tidbit is that Dopson could decided to reclassify to the 2026 class. Miami’s staff formally granted Dopson the “green light” to make the jump per On3 recruiting analyst Stephen Wagner. The decision comes on the heels of an update noting Dopson was “like 90% leaning” toward reclassification. Dopson could enroll as early as January, participate in spring drills, and position himself for early playing time.
That certainly ramps things up for Dopson and the teams coming after him. It could mean any fall visit he takes to see the Notre Dame football team will be an official visit rather than an unofficial one. This recruiting fight is just starting to ramp up and will be a very interesting one to watch.
