Former Notre Dame football star making most of renewed NFL life

Spencer Shrader has moved around quite a bit since being done with Notre Dame football, but he's making the most of his latest opportunity.

12 days ago, former Notre Dame Football kicker Spencer Shrader joined his third team of his rookie season when the Kansas City Chiefs signed him off the New York Jets’ practice squad. This past Sunday, he rewarded them for that move.

Against the lowly Carolina Panthers, the Chiefs struggled to keep their opponent off the board. That meant they needed as many points as possible. Shrader did his part, making all 3 of his field-goal attempts with a long of 41, including a 31-yard field goal to win the game in the final seconds as the Chiefs beat the Panthers 30-27.

After a multi-week injury to Harrison Butker, the Chiefs needed a kicker, so they turned to the former Notre Dame football and South Florida product. Shrader started his career with the Indianapolis Colts before heading to the Jets and now the Chiefs, all before Week 13 of his first season.

Ex-Notre Dame football star makes the game winning kick

However, it’s not all good news for the rookie kicker. Shrader’s Week 13 is in doubt. He missed Tuesday’s practice with a hamstring injury and the Chiefs signed free-agent kicker Matthew Wright to their practice squad in response.

It would certainly be a bummer if the former Notre Dame football star finally got a shot to show what he could do, and then immediately miss time and potentially lose his job because he suffered an injury so soon after he got the game winning kick for one of the best teams in the NFL.
