One of the things that every team like the Notre Dame football squad wants to do with spring practice is get out of the session without major injuries. On that note, head coach Marcus Freeman offered some bad news when he met the media on Saturday.
The worst news came for offensive lineman Guerby Lambert. Lambert had been impressing coaches with the way he’s handled his blocks so far in spring practice. However, he’s taking the next few months off. That’s because he had to have shoulder surgery to repair a labrum that will keep him out until at least the fall. Freeman did say he believes that Lambert will be back and ready to go when fall practice kicks off.
The other Notre Dame football injury reported on Saturday is one that is really only concerning because it means that running back Jeremiyah Love is once again banged up. Freeman said that the man who is the odds on favorite to win the Heisman among running backs suffered a hamstring injuy. He did so while practicing with both the running backs and receivers.

Freeman added that Love’s injury isn’t expected to be too bad. But it’s possible that he’s going to be sitting out a few weeks of spring practice.
There have been a few other injuries that have popped up as practice goes on. It was also revealed this week that freshman wide receiver Micah Gilbert broke his hand on the first play of his first practice of the year. He too will have to wait until the fall to show what he can do.
Lambert’s injury is a set back for an offensive line unit that has something to prove in 2025. After so many departures of linemen through the portal this offseason, the guys who stayed and are expected to start need to step up.
Love has something different to prove for the Notre Dame football team. He has to prove that the pounding his body took over the longest college football season of all time, is not something that’s going to plague him in an important 2025 campaign.
