Any Notre Dame fans who were upset that Steve Angeli decided to leave South Bend aren’t going to be happy about where he ended up. At least they aren’t going to be happy that he will actually face off against the Fighting Irish this season.

Things move fast in the transfer portal world and rumors tend to have legs. For Angeli, those rumors were that the former ND quarterback was headed to Syracuse to be the next 4,000 yard passer for the Orange.

Steve Angeli’s transfer sets up emotional Notre Dame reunion in November

Shortly after rumors started flying that he was indeed signing, the former Notre Dame signal caller made it official, announcing on his own social media accounts that he’s going to be playing his college football in New York state in 2025.

When Angeli first entered the portal, there was some whispering that he might be headed to Tennessee to replace Nico Iamaleava, however there were always some questions where or not he’d be a real fit for the Volunteers offense, especially since it tends to require someone with a stronger arm.

The offense that Fran Brown runs for the resurgent ACC squad is much more of a fit as demonstrated by Kyle McCord, who certainly seems to have a very similar skillset to Angeli.

Where this gets ugly for Notre Dame fans is it means that the Fighting Irish will have to face off against their former beloved backup. Marcus Freeman and company will face off against the Orange on November 22, in their second to last regular season game.

For Steve Angeli fans, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about his landing with his new team officially. Last year, Kyle McCord led all of college football with 4,779 yards. He added 34 touchdowns and threw just 12 interceptions, while completing 66% of his passes.

Angeli, in limited starts and backup action, has completed more than 70% of his passes with Notre Dame, while throwing 10 touchdowns and just 1 interception. He’s also got big game experience thanks to starting the 2023 Sun Bowl and coming into a playoff game last winter after Riley Leonard left with an injury.
