Now that the Notre Dame football team has started building its 2027 recruiting class with commitments from Ellis McGaskin and Teddy Jarrard, Marcus Freeman and Co. are looking for more. Specifically, it appears they've turned their sights to one of the best EDGE players in the country in David Jacobs.
Jacobs is the real deal, rated as the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia, the No. 3 EDGE, and the No. 11 overall player in the 2027 class according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He's the kind of player who usually goes to an SEC power like Alabama, Georgia, or Texas. However, because Notre Dame has Kenesaw, Georgia quarterback Jarrard in the fold, Jacobs has taken notice of the Fighting Irish.

"I love Teddy," Jacobs said of the Notre Dame football commit according to On3's Kyle Kelly. "This is big for Notre Dame. He's a great football player and overall a great human being."
That's an essential first step for the Irish when it comes to David "DJ" Jacobs. But it's not as though they've won the war. The 2027 prospect is still considered to be relatively high on the Georgia Bulldogs. Michigan and Clemson are also right up there.
Turning Irish eyes on the 2027 class
Still, having Jarrard and McGaskin in the fold seems to have sent up a signal to the rest of the 2027 class. Notre Dame is serious about building on its success in the 2026 cycle. Hopefully even improving on it.
The next step will be securing a visit from David Jacobs and going from there. It's clear that getting its quarterback of the future has jump-started the next class for the Notre Dame football program. Now it needs to add some top-notch defenders, and Freeman and his staff will really be off and running.
