When Jaden Mickey left the Notre Dame football program, it looked like he was going to fully embrace the Calgortihm. However, the Golden Bears didn’t end up being his final stop.

Earlier this week, after getting released from Cal after asking to rethink his decision, he’s found a new home. He’s headed to the Boise State Broncos and in the process, he’ll face off against his old teammates at his old stomping grounds in October.

Mickey’s new landing spot is an interesting one specifically because he’s headed to a playoff team from the 2024 season but is certainly in a more remote part of the country than either where the Notre Dame football program or where the Cal Bears are.

Former Notre Dame football defensive back lands on future Irish opponent

Jaden Mickey didn’t play a ton when he was with the Irish. In three seasons, he had 23 tackles, three passes defended and an interception.

It was clear for a while that he didn’t love the limited playing time he was getting. The irony there is that he could have stuck it out a bit longer and likely would have been a starter, or at least gotten more playing time in the 2024 season.

He departed just as injuries started to take a toll on the Notre Dame football team’s secondary. Now he will get a shot to show what he can do with the Mountain West squad. And as an added bonus, he’ll get to show what he can do against his old teammates.
