When looking at the players that Notre Dame lost to the Transfer Portal this winter, Antavious (Scrap) Richardson might be the one who ends up stinging the most in the near future.
Richardson is both young and a speed burner, though the Irish didn't know exactly where he would fit into the team's rotation. He came to South Bend as a wide receiver, but never saw the field and ended up as the scout team quarterback more than anything else.
Now, Scrap Richardson has left Notre Dame for the Auburn Tigers and its new administration. As he heads to the SEC, he's changing position and is expected to try playing on the defensive side as a cornerback for War Eagle.
Why Antavious “Scrap” Richardson’s Auburn move looks risky for Notre Dame
As it turns out, the young player is going to play for a coach he's familiar with. The Greenville (Ga.) native was committed to the USF coaching staff as a 2025 high school recruit from June to October, 2024. When he started impressing analysts and moving up the rankings, he became a target for bigger schools, including the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame ended up flipping him and pulling him away from then-
Bulls head coach Alex Golesh. Now, Golesh has managed to get his commitment back since he's at a Power 4 school.
As Richardson didn't see any playing time in 2025, he's retained his redshirt and will be a freshman in 2026. Assuming he sticks around Auburn beyond this fall, he'll get to face off against his former teammates in 2027 and 2028 when Auburn takes on Notre Dame in a home-and-home series.
