Now that Notre Dame football’s spring practice is almost over, two themes hit on during the Blue and Gold game. The first is that while there have been some injuries since Spring Practice started, the Irish could get through the Blue and Gold game without anyone getting hurt.

The second theme is that while the transfer portal opens on Wednesday, Marcus Freeman has said he doesn’t intend to go after anyone. That’s a theme that’s been true since they filled up on a few transfers over the winter but mostly stayed out of the portal more than they have in the past. The biggest key is that the Golden Domers aren’t looking for a quarterback.

While the Notre Dame football coach didn’t mention him by name, the obvious answer is that he’s not going after Nico Iamaleava. That despite the fact that some analysts connected the Notre Dame football team to the former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback even before Iamaleava was a free agent.

Portal drama looms, but Notre Dame football sticks with its quarterback trio

"We're not actively seeking to add to what we've got"

If anything, it seems likely that Freeman and company will lose a couple of bodies. The Irish are looking to cut down the QB race from three to two before the fall. That cut could come on Wednesday.

Freeman also said that they aren’t ready to name the Top Two yet but it’s possible they might tell the players. At the moment, it seems as though CJ Carr is the front-runner. It also seems like Kenny Minchey could be the No. 2 quarterback. That would mean Steve Angeli could be the odd man out.

For now, the Notre Dame football team is sitting and waiting to see what happens. But on the whole, the team had a successful spring practice and the guys who were hurt, should be back to fully healthy by the fall.
