Fresh off a commitment from one of the best defensive linemen in the class, Notre Dame is now hard after one of his Bergen Catholic teammates. There was already talk that Jackson Vaughn could help get some of the best players from his high school. Quarterback Trey Tagliaferri certainly counts in that regard.
The 4-star QB just received an offer from Marcus Freeman and Co., but it stands to reason there is an almost instant connection between the gunslinger and the school in South Bend. In the last month, the 2028 New Jersey quarterback has added offers from schools like Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana, Florida, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Stanford, and Missouri to a list that already included programs like Penn State, Alabama, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Rutgers, and Syracuse, among many others. On Wednesday, it was Notre Dame's turn to make an official offer.
Although the Irish have already offered three 2028 quarterbacks, Notre Dame made a strong impression on Tagliaferri during his visit to South Bend for the Blue-Gold Game earlier this spring. “It was a great experience,” Tagliaferri told Irish Sports Daily. “Just seeing the campus. It's very historical.”
He added that the trip was a big one for the whole family. “My dad's been a Notre Dame fan his whole life,” Tagliaferri said. “So it was a great time for him.”

Trey Tagliaferri offer gives Notre Dame football another Bergen Catholic target
If there's one team that might be the Irish's top competition, it appears to be Oklahoma. Tagliaferri is fresh off visits to Texas and OU, with the Sooners reportedly leaving a strong impression on him.
Notre Dame now officially has a race to commit with four quarterback offers in the 2028 class. Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage’s Neimann Lawrence, Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell’s Kingston Preyear and Princeton (N.J.) Hun School’s Lukas Prock. Lawrence looks like he might be "the guy" at the moment, as he announced he'll commit on June 25, and Marcus Freeman's crew is in the final five.
At the same time, the offer to Tagliaferri on the same day that Lawrence announced he's committing could be a sign that the Golden Domers know they don't have the inside track on the Florida prospect. It's also possible that Freeman and his staff might look to take two quarterbacks in the 2028 class, and that's why so many offers have gone out. There's also enough time before the 2028 signing day for the Irish to make sure they have more than one egg in the basket.
Tagliaferri would be a big get for Notre Dame. He's the No. 9 player in the state of New Jersey, the No. 14 quarterback, and the No. 203 player in the class according to the 247Sports Composite. He had a massive sophomore season with Bergen Catholic, throwing for 2,215 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just 3 interceptions.
The biggest bonus for Notre Dame, of course, would be that it could set up a massive Bergen Catholic pipeline. With Vaughn in the boat, the Irish are also trying to land the twin brothers, Adrian and Amiir Woodward, and now, the team's quarterback.
