Notre Dame football wide receiver (and former quarterback) Tyler Buchner has announced he will remain on campus in 2025, finishing his remaining year of football eligibility while also competing for the Fighting Irish lacrosse team.
A true two-sport standout, Buchner has proven his versatility both on the gridiron and lacrosse field. While he has one year of football eligibility left, he is also committed to completing his lacrosse eligibility. His collegiate journey, marked by resilience and adaptability, has made him a significant contributor to Notre Dame athletics.
Buchner’s Notre Dame football career began at quarterback, serving as Jack Coan’s backup in 2021. He earned the starting role over Drew Pyne in 2022, but an early-season shoulder injury in an upset loss to Marshall cut his campaign short. After transferring to Alabama, where he faced challenges securing the starting quarterback role, Buchner returned to Notre Dame to join the men’s lacrosse team in December 2023.
Notre Dame football utility man will help the team for one more season
While helping the Fighting Irish claim a national championship in lacrosse in 2024 before walking onto the football team as a wide receiver in May, he’s been seen as being invaluable on the scout team for Marcus Freeman’s squad.
Adding to his impressive resume, Buchner has already graduated from Notre Dame, earning his degree in the spring. He is now pursuing a master’s degree in business analytics, further cementing his commitment to both athletic and academic excellence.
With Buchner’s final year approaching, Notre Dame football fans can look forward to his dual-sport contributions. His dedication to representing the Fighting Irish across multiple platforms underscores his passion and commitment to the university’s athletic legacy.
